Over 70% of our immune system is in our gut, so what we eat can help set the foundation of our health. Our immune system is what fights bacteria and infection that otherwise creates inflammation in the body and causes illness and disease. Therefore, a healthy immune system is critical in maintaining good health.
Certain foods help boost the immune system. A great way to get a boost of nutrients from food is to make smoothies since you incorporate the different benefits from each food into one drink. I try to make healthy smoothies as much as I can, especially when I feel run down or stressed because that is typically when I get sick.
Some Immune Boosting Food:
Oranges: High concentration of vitamin c which provides antioxidant and immune support.
Carrots: Contains vitamin a (beta carotene) which helps vision and support a healthy immune system.
Ginger: Reduces inflammation, can reduce nausea and supports healthy bacteria in the stomach.
Pineapple: High amount of vitamin c and provides anti-inflammatory and digestive benefits.
Immune Boosting Smoothie:
1 large orange
2 carrots, peeled
A sliver of fresh ginger
1 cup 100% pure pineapple juice
1 cup ice
Place all ingredients into blender. Blend until combined to your desired consistency.
