Gluten Free Options at Chipotle

Gluten Free ChipotleI don’t eat out often due to being super sensitive to gluten and cross-contamination, so there are very few places I trust eating at. Chipotle is a place I eat at and trust.

According to the Chipotle website: “If you avoid gluten, don’t eat our flour tortillas. If you are highly sensitive to gluten and would like us to change our gloves, just let us know at the start of your order. You should be aware items containing corn, including corn tortillas (chips, soft corn, and crispy corn tortillas) and corn salsa, may have a small amount of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field.”

So everything there is gluten free except for their flour tortillas. When I eat there I always get a burrito bowl. Even though they have corn tortillas I never get them because they put them on the same warmer as the flour tortillas.

To help prevent cross-contamination, I never get anything that is grabbed with hands (cheese, lettuce, etc) because they have touched the flour tortillas at some point and then put their hands in the cheese or lettuce.

Also, when it’s my turn to order I always tell them I have Celiac and get very sick from gluten so I need them to change their gloves and have the same person carry down and make my bowl (passing from person to person is too much risk for cross-contamination). I have had this done many times, and every time they are happy to help me. I have followed these steps when eating at Chipotle, and I have never gotten sick.

I hope this helps you next time you are trying to think of a safe place to eat! As always, I recommend using the gf restaurant finding app.

I follow your posts daily and I find all of them very helpful and practical, although I don’t always respond.:) You recipients rock! My daughter thrives now because we follow stick avoidance of cross contamination. I ask for paper plates and disposable utensils too! Love you Kristina!!!

My Chipotle gets fresh tubs of the things that are grabbed by hand. They also change out all of the serving spoons in the other items, so that they can grab them without contaminating their clean gloves, and thus your food. They have 2 to 3 people orchestrating the swap, to be sure that contaminated hands never touch I contaminated items. I eat there with high confidence and I’ve never had any problems after eating there.
