The effects of Coca Cola on your body

The effects of soda on your body

I’ve never been a huge soda fan. My feeling has always been I would rather eat my calories instead of drink them! The only time I’ll drink soda is if I’m eating out (which is rare), but even at that I normally get water.

I found this article online and after reading it, I’m officially done with soda… forever!! I always knew soda wasn’t good for you, but after reading the breakdown of its effects on the body I find it mind blowing and will never pick up a can again!

A summary of the article and what happens to your body one hour after drinking a can of coke:

10 Minutes: 10 teaspoons of sugar hit your system. You should vomit from this but the phosphoric acid down the flavor of sweetness, allowing you to keep it down.

20 Minutes: Your blood sugar spikes, causing an insulin burst. Here your liver turns the sugar into fat.

40 Minutes: This is when caffeine absorption is complete and your pupils dilate, your blood pressure rises and as a responds your liver puts more sugar into your bloodstream. Drowsiness also begins to occur here.

45 Minutes: Your body increases its dopamine production, which stimulates the pleasure centers of your brain. (Physically the same thing that happens during heroin use!)

60 Minutes: You have a sugar crash and begin to get sluggish.

Yikes!! The article goes into so much more detail. FYI: This applies to most caffeinated soft drinks, not just Coke.  I found the article on Flipboard under the nutrition section. You can read the article I read in its entirety by clicking here.
