Surviving Christmas without getting sick

Enter the anxiety. Another holiday to stress about getting sick! 🙁 It doesn’t have to be like that if you take certain precautions to ensure a safe (gluten-free safe) holiday experience for yourself.

I can remember I used to stress every time I had a holiday (or just party for that matter) to attend. I would go, try to eat what I felt was safe and then play the waiting game… to see if I got sick. Now how is that fun? It’s not!

Now I have created a set of rules that I follow and I don’t have to worry about getting sick. Don’t forget if you get sick at Christmas, it will most likely ruin your New Years plans!

So here they are:

  1. Eat before– Yup that’s right. I always stuff myself before a party because you never know how long it will last and I don’t want to get hungry and be tempted to try something.
  2. Bring an appetizer or side for everyone– If you make it, then you know it’s safe for you to eat and everyone gets to experience your food. (From my experience people often say “wow this doesn’t taste gluten free?!” Haha)
  3. Make a dessert– Now you get to eat dessert and everyone will love that you made something for them to try!
  4. Pack Tupperware with food– This is if you didn’t stuff your face at home before the party or if the party goes long…you don’t want to be hungry and tempted to eat “their” food!
  5. Always serve yourself first– Okay I know this sounds rude, but it’s not. It’s strategically planned so that you know your food is safe and doesn’t get cross-contaminated.

I know the host will most likely tell you they have some gluten free options for you to eat (veggies, meat, etc) BUT don’t forget if they baked cookies etc in the oven and didn’t clean it well, you run the risk of getting sick.

I hope these help!

Merry Christmas friends! xoxo
